Last week it took me three whole days to recover from my first Metafit class. I had bruises on my knees, elbows and back; my thigh muscles felt like they’d shrunk inside my body and my arms were so sore I could hardly lift a toothbrush.
Today I had a meeting at 3 o’clock which accidentally took place in the pub (it was pouring and the coffee shop was miles away). I had one beer and realised I’d sealed my fate – I couldn’t possibly skip out on Metafit now, not even if my husband was late home from work, which he was. I took the keys out of his hand and sped up to the studio, dashing in just as the warm-up finished.
Luckily the instructor gave me five minutes to catch up as she demonstrated the new exercises and off we went. This week was BRILLIANT! I enjoyed it so much better than last week. We did a different sequence which I think made the time pass much quicker and the exercises were challenging rather than painful. We did three exercises in a row with a 25 second rest then repeated twice before moving on to three different exercises. There were four sets of three times three giving an 18 minute workout, burning 300 calories there and then and a further 500 during the ‘after burn’ according to the instructor. Now that is a good return on investment.
