It was either a run or a bottle of wine tonight, so I’m feeling smug for choosing the run.
Some days are more stressful than others. Some days the weather is more dismal than others. Some days your little darlings take up every inch of your patience and the minute your husband comes home you shoot out the door like a rat up a drainpipe.
I ran without stopping for 35 minutes tonight and it felt WONDERFUL! The fresh air, the freedom, the music pumped right up… Even the killer hill at the very start couldn’t dampen my enthusiasm. The fact Pendulum’s Watercolour was the first track on my playlist may have helped – I had a huge smile on my face as I attacked that mini-mountain and sang “Take me out of here!” Sorry neighbours.
I didn’t really have a planned route in my head – it was one of those just-keep-running runs. I wasn’t surprised my subconscious took me past the barracks. I’d watched in admiration as a squad four abreast marched up a hill near my house in the pouring rain earlier today in full gear and huge packs. It reminded me of our pal Cammy and the time he invited us to Catterick for the summer party. That experience had affected Rod and I quite deeply and definitely motivated me to keep running, in the dark, up the hills and through the puddles – no excuses.
I felt amazing when I finally got back to the house. Knackered, but amazing. The power of a good run, eh?
